Famous Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and his wife, actress Katie Holmes are officially divorced after five years of marriage.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are officially divorced after five years of marriage, reports People magazine. According to the magazine, citing a source close to the couple, the divorce papers were signed in New York on Monday, August 20.

Divorce process of the celeb couple was extremely short – Katie Holmes had filed for divorce less than two months ago. Recently Katie took away all her belongings from the house where she lived together with Cruise.

As previously reported by celeb portal TMZ, the last time 50-year-old Cruz and 33-year-old Holmes were seen together was in a park in February.

The couple tied the knot at the end of 2006, they have one common child – six year old daughter, Suri. Besides, Cruise had adopted two when he was married to actress Nicole Kidman.

It must be recalled that news of divorce was as an unpleasant surprise for Cruise, and it came just before his 50th birthday.  As previously reported, reason for the divorce cited by Katie was insurmountable contradictions and Cruise’s obsession with Scientology.

Under the divorce settlement deal, as reported by People magazine, Cruise and Holmes have agreed that they would cooperate in raising their daughter. Suri will be living with her mother in New York, and father would visit her and take her for walk, or even vacation.

In the beginning, when Katie Holmes had just filed for divorce, she was categorically determined against allowing Cruise to see his daughter and wanted to raise her alone. Kathy was afraid that Cruise would also involve their daughter with Scientologists. However, Katie changed her mind when Cruise decided not to go to court against Katie and agreed to comply with all the conditions of his wife. On her insistence, Cruise will not take Suri to any of the events of Scientologists. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes signed an agreement for divorce in July, admitting that they have no fundamental claims against each other.

According to the marriage contract, which was signed by the actors in 2006, after divorcing Katie should get a mansion in Beverly Hills, and Tom will pay her at least 3 million dollars for every year of their marriage.

As of July 2012, networth of Tom Cruise was $270 million and net worth of Katie Holmes was $25 million.

Meanwhile, Katie seems to have been enjoying her freedom, along with her daughter. They are often seen together strolling. A few days ago the actress began teaching her daughter to ride bike and is trying to wean the six-year-old Suri from the habit of climbing into her arms. As per one of the sources of US Weekly, Suri’s life is about to change. Katie wants to be a real mother, and make the girl a disciplined child.
